To set up a wireless printer on Windows, make sure that you have an active Wi-Fi connection handy. Note the security passcode of your router network. Connect your printer and the Windows computer to the same wireless network.
How to setup wireless printer on windows computer
- Gather the network name and password for your Wi-Fi network.
- Connect the Windows computer to the wireless network.
- Place the printer closer to the router connection during the wireless setup.
- Turn On the router and printer.
- Detach the USB or Ethernet cable from the rear of the printer.
- Use the Wireless Setup Wizard for connecting the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
- Enter the WEP key, when prompted and click OK.
- Download and install the printer drivers on your Windows computer.
How to use the wireless setup wizard
- Gather the network name and password before you set up the printer in a wireless network. The name assigned to the network is SSID (Service Set Identifier). Turn on the router and connect the Windows computer to the wireless network.
- Place the printer closer to the router during the wireless set up. Disconnect the Ethernet or the USB cables from the printer. If the drivers are previously installed for USB connection and now you want to change to a wireless network, remove the USB installation.
- In Windows, search for your printer name and click on your printer name. The printer software will be displayed on the screen. Select Utilities, and then choose Printer Setup and Software Selection. Select Convert a USB connected printer to wireless. Follow the instructions displayed on-screen to complete the connection.
- If you want to connect the printer to a wireless network for the first time, use the Wireless Setup Wizard. Select the Setup button on the printer control panel. Use the arrow buttons to select the Wireless Menu, and then choose OK. Select the Setup Wizard, and press OK.
- The printer starts to search for the available networks. Choose your network name and enter the WEP/WPA key. Ensure that you have entered the passkey as in the upper and lower case as mentioned. Tap OK. When the printer is connected to a Wi-Fi network, a blue light will flash on the printer control panel.
- After connecting the printer to a wireless network, install the drivers for your printer. There are two ways to install drivers- Download the software from the web, or you can use the installation CD-ROM provided with the printer package. Go to the manufacturer’s website and choose your printer model.
- Click Download and the setup file will begin to download. After the download completes, go to the Downloads folder. Double-click on the setup file and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation. Now, try printing a sample page to ensure proper connectivity of the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
