Lexmark all-in-one printers are among the best printers that came out in the 90s. Compared to the current models, the process of changing your printer’s ink cartridges are a little complex. i. Modern printers come with a separate compartment that allows the user to change replaceable parts such as the ink cartridge and the toner. Lexmark, being the antique that it is, does not have a provision for ease of use.
ii. To get started, turn off the power on the wall socket that the printer cord is connected to. Following this, proceed to remove the other end of the power cord from the rear side of the printer. Windup the wire and keep it safe, this is to be reconnected after the cartridge has been changed.
iii. Grab hold of the input paper tray and remove it from its socket. The same process has to be repeated for the output tray. Remove the both of them and keep them separately and proceed to the next instruction.
iv. Next step would be to remove the top portion of the printer which also acts the scanner lid. This is done by removing the locking mechanism present on the side of the lid. This portion comes off easily.
v. Care has to be taken whilst removing the scanner glass to ensure that there is no scratching of the glass surface. Note that dropping this panel will cause damage to the glass and causes imperfect scanning.
vi. Gently lift the entire scanning portion off the printer. Scanning glass is connected to the printer body with a click lock mechanism, one on each side and a plastic insertion lock. Remove these locks and this portion comes off fairly easily.
vii. The entire top portion of the printer along with the control panel and buttons can be lifted off. There are two screws present on the printer that has to be removed. Keep these screws aside so that replacing them would be easier upon reassembling.
viii. The upper cover of the printer can be taken off to reveal the cartridge and the printing area. It is optional to remove the sides of the printer. With the cartridge now visible, they can be conveniently replaced.
ix. Open the lid that is holding the cartridge in place and wriggle the cartridge out of its place. The other cartridge can also be removed by the same methods. Take care as to not damage the contact points of the printer.
x. Remove the new cartridge out of its package. On the cartridge, there is a tape covering the contact points and the print head. This has to be removed before placing them in the cartridge slot.
xi. Take care to place the cartridge as per their color specified. Lock the lid in place and reassemble the printer parts. Connect the power cord and turn on the printer. Your printer should now recognize the new cartridge and you are all set and ready to start printing.
