• These cartridges are generally cheaper and are a good option.  You get these at many supply stores. 

• You could also use a recycled cartridge. These are known by many names and recycled is one of them. There are companies that specialize in this line and you can purchase cartridges from them. Even old cartridges from original manufacturers can be used to recycle and create a new cartridge. The parts of the old cartridges can be recycled and reassembled. If the old cartridge had parts that do not work, they can always be replaced with new ones that work.

• Not only are these cartridges cost effective, they are also environment friendly. You just have to be careful when buying a recycled cartridge. On the one hand, all the parts used in a recycled cartridge are going to be from a reputed brand. But on the other, you can not be too sure of the quality of these cartridges. You will have to put in a lot of effort to find a good one that works and you will not know if it does till you print from it. 

• This does have a downside though. Actually with both cartridges that are compatible and recycled. if you look around on the internet, there will be a lot of people that have  been unhappy with the print quality of a recycled cartridge. There will also be many that say the ink quality is not as good as what comes with using an original ink cartridge. this will obviously be there because although all the parts are of high end quality, the ink used is different. They will not use the same composition or formula as is used by the printer manufacturer and this may not always yield the same results. But this should not be a problem ideally if you do not require high end prints every time. Home users especially are willing to let this one pass unless it is a very important document they are printing. For businesses that rely heavily on their printers, this will be a problem. 

• Apart from this, printer compatibility is not a given with these cartridges. Sometimes, even after just having inserted a full ink cartridge, your printer may display an ink alert message. There are ways to work around this though.
